Heavy equipment air conditioners

Heavy equipment air conditioners adopt the vapor compression refrigeration cycle, consisting of four core components: compressor, condenser, expansion valve, evaporator, plus refrigerant as heat transfer medium. The whole process is divided into 4 stages: compression → condensation → throttling expansion → evaporation, circulating repeatedly to realize cooling.

Step 1: Compression (Compressor)

Driven by the construction machine engine belt or independent DC motor, the compressor sucks low-temperature low-pressure gaseous refrigerant from the evaporator, compresses it into high-temperature high-pressure gas.
  • For engine-driven AC: The compressor clutch engages when cooling is turned on, powered by the engine.
  • For electric parking AC: 12V/24V DC compressor runs independently off vehicle batteries when the engine stops.

Step 2: Condensation (Condenser)

High-temp high-pressure gaseous refrigerant flows into the condenser installed outside the cab (usually mounted on the machine side/radiator).

External strong fan blows ambient air over the condenser fins, taking away heat from the refrigerant. The refrigerant releases heat and condenses into high-temperature high-pressure liquid refrigerant.

A receiver drier is fitted here to filter impurities and absorb moisture in the refrigerant, preventing pipeline ice blockage.

Step 3: Throttling Expansion (Expansion Valve)

High-pressure liquid refrigerant passes through the tiny orifice of the expansion valve. The space suddenly expands, the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant drop sharply, turning into low-temperature low-pressure gas-liquid mixture.

The expansion valve also automatically adjusts refrigerant flow according to cab temperature to control cooling capacity.

Step 4: Evaporation (Evaporator inside cab)

Low-temp gas-liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator inside the cab air duct.

Cab hot air blows through the cold evaporator fins; the refrigerant absorbs heat from the cabin air and fully vaporizes into low-pressure low-temp gas. The air loses heat and blows out cold air to cool the cab.

The low-pressure gaseous refrigerant flows back to the compressor to start a new cycle.

2. Heating Working Principle

Heating does not use the refrigeration system, relying on the machine’s engine hot coolant:
  1. Hot engine antifreeze flows into the heater core inside the cab evaporator assembly.
  2. The blower forces cab air to pass through the hot heater core; air absorbs heat and becomes warm air output.
  3. A temperature mixing damper adjusts the mixing ratio of cold and hot air to control the outlet air temperature.

3. Defrost & Demist Function

Switch to hot air mode, hot air blows onto front/rear cab glass, evaporating water mist on the glass surface to restore driving visibility.

4. Special Design Adapted to Heavy Equipment Working Conditions

  1. Shock-resistant pipelines and fixed brackets: Adapt to severe vibration of excavators, loaders and mining vehicles.
  2. Enhanced dustproof and waterproof structure: Block construction site dust, mud and rainwater to avoid component damage.
  3. High heat dissipation condenser: Copes with high ambient temperature in open-air construction environments.
  4. 12V/24V DC matching design: Matches the power supply system of all construction machinery.
